Theme for May 7 - Blood & Iron

Posted in: Meetings

“The Great Questions of the Day will not be decided by speeches and the resolutions but by Blood and Iron.”

Otto Eduard Leopold von Bismarck, Count of Bismarck-Schönhausen, Duke of Lauenburg, Prince of Bismarck, (1 April 1815 – 30 July 1898)

I don’t want to go down the road of politics with this because it will bore us all to tears. So I’ll leave out the Prussian Empire, people with pointy silver hats, cannons, conquering, and all that fierce pancake type stuff.

Instead, I want to look at this statement at a personal level . We all have had a time when bringing the hammer down worked for us instead of taking the fluffy North American HR approach or the politically correct, painfully drawn out, and convoluted “win- win” negotiation.

Indeed, this approach can make life more exciting. Although you may quickly become less popular, it is necessary at times. There is that angry egoistic superhero in all of us, “the masked angry person”, our neanderthal dark side, but it does have its place.
