Theme for July 9 - And you may ask yourself - well… how did I get here?

This week’s theme is a bit existential. I racked my brain for a theme. If you are old enough you may remember the song by Talking Heads and the lyric “And you may ask yourself - well… how did I get here?”

I can only speak for myself, but often I wonder how did I get here. What were the past causes and conditions that influenced my current situation? For some, there are clear and pivotal moments that define their current circumstances - a stroke of luck, a car accident, an influential person. But for the most part it’s the small things that influence where we are - the bad Chinese food that left you hanging over the toilet on July 2nd 1985, or the over-sized flared pants that your mother bought you at the department store on June 7th 1978, that caused you to trip on the church stairs and break your front teeth. Luckily, Jesus was so close at hand to save you; alas, he was stuck on the cross and couldn’t react in time. Perhaps your mother was convinced she was going to give birth to a girl, and bought 2 years’ worth of pink clothes, but you ended up being a boy! How do you explain those baby pictures?
