This week’s meeting is going to focus on Emergency Preparedness. We’ve all heard it said that BC is due for “The Big One” any time now. Scientists say that a subduction zone earthquake is estimated to occur every 500 years. This type of quake is caused by the slipping of tectonic plates (in our case it is the Juan de Fuca plate being forced under the North America plate). Also, according to scientists, there is a 70% probability of the next “megaquake” happening in the next 200 years in BC. The last quake of this type occurred in January 1700 and measured a 9 on the Richter scale. An earthquake of this magnitude will undoubtedly cause a tsunami…..

So, how does this make you feel? Are you and your loved ones prepared in the event of a natural disaster?
