Theme for June 25 - The Power of Play
Jun 21st, 2009 by marianh
Dear fellow Night Visioners,
This week’s theme may appear light on the surface, but is far from it.
Growing up, we spend most of our time playing,…. Play allows a child to experiment with the world around him and the emotional world inside him. While it may look like mere child’s play, there’s a lot of work —problem solving, skill building, overcoming physical and mental challenges— going on behind the scenes.
And then between one day and the next we do away with play. We call it childish, consider it a waste of time, and turn to thinking as our preferred methodology….
However, research shows that playing —not thought —is the secret ingredient in productivity. Play engages all of our senses. It moves muscles other than our cerebrums, rejuvenates, makes room for risk, and reminds us what it is to feel truly alive.
This week I will ask you to take off your thinking caps, and unleash your inner child while preparing for your roles and writing (or drawing, painting, singing, etc.) your intro.
We already have 2 speeches scheduled, and a workshop.
Your toastmaster,
Marian
