Over the weekend, the news featured another candidate for political office who achieved the great victory longed for by supporters and predicted by pundits. By campaigning on a platforms calling for change, the fresh-faced, charismatic leaders of reform movements can energise their followers and gain the support of the general public. This is a double-edged sword, of course; the expectations of the campaign often far outstrip the achievements of office, as the checks and balances of political and governmental institutions make dramatic change unlikely.  The mismatch of anticipation and expectation, on the one hand, and experience and satisfaction, on the other, is a wide-ranging phenomenon, touching everything from childhood birthday parties and Christmases to jobs and relationships in adulthood. What has your personal experience been with rising expectations? How do you achieve the balance required for emotional stability and success in personal and business relationships?

Sign up for roles early and often. Introductions on this week’s theme will be gratefully accepted. J
