Dear fellow toastmasters:

This week’s theme is The Impact of Digitization on Life. I was inspired when I read an article “My Digital Life”.

Now we are living in a digitized world. Digitization is affecting us everyday in nearly all respects: TV, radio, telephone and etc.

What is digitization?  How does it affect your life?

I used to go to the library frequently to conduct literature research and photocopy papers. Now nearly all scientific literature is in digital databases. I just sit in the front of my computer to search and get digital copies of papers through the Internet.  I rarely go to the library for a research project. It significantly saves my time. The real library is gradually becoming a virtual library.

14 years ago, it took about 2 dollars per minute to call my relatives in China. Now with a computer, webcam and Internet phone, I can stay in contact with my relatives and friends with no charge because the image and voices are digitized and transmitted through the Internet.
